Along with matching active adults with their dream home in Placer County, The Gillis Group enjoys being involved with local clubs and philanthropic organizations with one of its favorites being the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln.
Since its inception in 2001, the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln has dedicated thousands of volunteer hours and facilitated various fundraising projects to help better serve the Lincoln community. In 2016, the Lincoln chapter of the Kiwanis Club raised more than $62,000 through projects and grants that it, in turn, gave back to the local community.
The Kiwanis Club focuses its efforts on making a difference in the lives of local children and families. Some of the direct ways that the Kiwanis Club accomplishes this include providing summer reading books in Lincoln’s elementary schools, awarding college scholarships, sponsoring youth sports groups, and tutoring children who need a little extra help.
Some of its other sponsored kids programs include Bring-Up-Grades- a mentoring program for third graders, the Key Club- which teaches high school students about the benefits of community service and its positive impact, and a free Fishing Derby for local kids ages 7-12.
Overarching community programs that the Kiwanis Club sponsors include the Kiwanis Family House- a low-cost accommodation solution for families that are dealing with medical issues, the Gold Country Veterans Stand Down, and Food for Hungry People.
The Kiwanis Club is able to raise money for its programs through fundraisers like its annual benefit event, facilitating See’s Candies sales around the holidays, and one of Team Gillis’s favorite events- the Holiday Home Tour.
The Holiday Home Tour is a fun event that takes people on a tour of brightly-lit and decorated homes in Lincoln Hills during Christmastime. Although any of the homes on the tour would be great to see at any time of the year, there’s a special magic around the holiday season that adds an extra touch to the event. Many of the homes host boutiques and/or refreshments including Lincoln Kiwanis Club’s renowned hot apple cider.
This highly anticipated event is set to take place on December 2 and costs $20 for adults and $10 for children under 18. For more information about this event, visit http://www.lincolnkiwanis.org/.
