The Harris Center for the Arts

Five years after it opened its doors, The Harris Center for the Arts has become home to various regional arts organizations.

Nothing beats this premier art venue at the Folsom Lake College campus when it comes to showcasing the works of young locals as well as international artists.

Harris Center’s 80,000 square feet is divided into cozier spaces that make
art appreciation more personal and meaningful. The Center’s proximity to a host of restaurants and shopping places attract even more people.

Facilities for the arts

Its state-of-the-art facilities include:

  • Stage One
  • This 850-seat theater boasts a 46-foot proscenium, a full stage house, and orchestra pit.

  • Stage Two
  • This 200-seat City Studio Theater is an excellent venue for student productions and other programs.

  • Stage Three
  • This 100-seat Scott Skillman Recital Hall is Harris Center’s most intimate stage, ideal for acoustic music.

  • Black Box
  • The Harris Center’s most flexible space is used for rehearsals, lectures, exhibits, and even sit-down dinners.

  • Bank of America Gallery
  • This strategic location for visual arts exhibits is located at the front entrance of Harris Center.

  • Comstock Mortgage Lobby and Mercy Mezzanine
  • This is where artists hang with their family, friends, supporters, and patrons. You can have a one-on-one with the artist and learn more about their work.

  • Recording studio

Platform for arts education

The Harris Center for the Arts aims to instruct, develop, and guide talented art students. These actors, musicians, dancers, visual artists, and technicians from across the region may join the following programs:

  • Youth Arts Academy
  • Master teachers who are artists themselves hold summer classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Students visit the Harris Center Bank of America Art Gallery to study the works of the masters. A gallery exhibit open to the students’ family and friends serves as culminating activity.

  • Youth Chamber Orchestra
  • This aims to promote music appreciation and excellence among 12 to 18 -year-old artists. Successful candidates can get to play violin, viola, cello, bass, and flute in the orchestra. Audition forms can be downloaded here.

  • ClassACTS! Matinee Series
  • This program features a variety of performances from some of the world’s top artists. The curriculum, which caters to K-12 students, focuses on language arts, world languages, and social studies.

Five years of artistic celebration

Harris Center has served as venue for creative expression and the center of artistic growth in Folsom and surrounding areas since 2011. It has staged more than 1,500 performances, welcomed 750,000 visitors, and sold over $20 million worth of tickets.

Its revenues of over $45 million helped boost the region’s economy.

Thankfully, the momentum shows no signs of slowing down. This landmark institution promises to continue to do its share for Sacramento, as well as the artists who have benefitted from it
